About Project Kravata

Project Kravata will highlight influential Croats from the Croatian diaspora through showcasing their contributions they have made to their communities, Croatia and the world.

Project Kravata will collect neck ties, scarves, and short written summaries of the lives of those who wore them for a travelling exhibit.

the Project Kravata team will prepare and curate a travelling exhibit which will commence in June 2023. The purpose of this exhibit is to showcase the Necktie as a symbol of Croatian culture as well as the contributions of Croats to their respective communities around the world and to their homeland Croatia.

Why project Kravata?

The origin of the necktie dates back to the 17th century when Croats used neckties to identify their soldiers in combat. The French soon took notice and would soon after use the necktie as a fashion and status symbol.

Project Kravata intends to promote the necktie as a Croatian national symbol abroad and associate with this symbol the contributions Croats have made to their communities, Croatia and the world.
