Don Markušić

Lawyer, President of ACAP Zagreb, Vice President of Transparency International Croatia

Born in Zagreb, Don Markušić moved to Melbourne with his parents when he was a young boy. After completing his education in Australia, and accomplishing an impressive career as a lawyer including being the founder and president of the Asian-Pacific Chamber of Commerce, he fulfilled a life-time dream of coming back to the country that was so dear to him. Don first moved to Vienna where he worked for Lambert, Grohmann and Deisenberger (now known as Eversheds Sutherland). the law firm eventually expanded to Croatia and Don took this opportunity to move back to Croatia. Wanting to establish his own Law firm, he bought a house across the street from the Sabor which he knew he had to have. While renovating the facade of the house, Construction workers found a rare fresco that contains The Blessed Mother, Jesus, Joseph, Jesus’ grandmother Ana, grandfather Jacob, the Holy Spirit and the Angels of Heaven. Don is one of the only Lawyers that is registered with the Croatian Chamber of Law that has passed both the bar in Anglo-saxon law and in Croatian law. He is a former member and president of the American Chamber of Commerce, Vice President of Transparency International Croatia, an external advisor to the government advisory board for legislation, but he is most proud of being a member of the Association of Croatian Defenders from Glina who are recovering from PTSD. Alongside his legal career, Don lectures at the Diplomatic Academy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to teach future Croatian ambassadors and diplomats to protect Croatia’s Sovereignty. More Recently, Don has founded ACAP Zagreb which is also headquartered in his office on Markov trg in Zagreb. We look forward to Don Speaking about how legislation can be changed in the country to use the full potential of Croats abroad and their rights as Croatian citizens.
